Here are some pictures of students calling on the Council to oppose the increase in tuition fees. They managed 140 outside the New College last week, but obviously the bitter weather deterred most of them. Some of those present are in receipt of the Education Maintenance Allowance, which the government is closing to new applicants in January of next year. Anger at the Lib Dem’s breaking of their promise to oppose fees increases was a source of particular anger amongst them. “We don’t want liars in government”, said one of the organisers. There was also a strong sentiment that education should not be for only those who are well off.
